Katharine Chant, Linked Ring's lead consultant, borrowed the name from her Great Grandfather,
the Victorian impressionist photographer, philanthropist and anarchist
George Davison. He founded the Brotherhood of the Linked Ring - a
secessionist group believing in photography as an art form and coming
together for mutual support, discussion and exhibitions. The concept
of each member being "a link" fits with Katharine's team building
approach to cultural projects.
